Istanbul: Day Three

We had about half a day left in Istanbul before our flight.. and we had some visitors.
We were staying at the Hotel Armada in the Sultanahmet area.. it was the perfect choice. Everyone was so nice.. you can always tell by the way they treat your child. The rooms, the ambiance.. everything just right. But the best part of it all.. the breakfast. Delectable.

and before I forget.. our not so surprise visitors. The Honeymooners! no I am not the weird sister in law who crashes her brothers honeymoon. The couple was so tired after planning the wedding that they came to me to plan the honeymoon.. I was already going to Turkey so my brother jumped on the Turkey bandwagon except his trip included Cappadocia and Antalya while we had to go home :( 


oh and did i mention the other stunning view from our hotel.. The Blue Mosque


The hotel also featured turtles

And a cool old shoe polishing station


Our last few hours went by in a blur.. our biggest regret... not being able to fit in the Topkapi Palace.. but we did have time for our last dessert :)




It was as beautiful as it was good.. M and I needed a minute just to figure out how and where to begin.. after that it didn't take us to long to finish.

And if this trip hadn't already been perfect it got even better when the airlines bumped us up to business class. I can never go back to coach.. Look at all the leg space.. and the meals never seemed to end.. 


Hope you enjoyed the trip. We sure did.

I think being bumped to business class might have been the best part of the trip!! :)
I finished reading Dan Brown's book Inferno last week and the last section took place in Istanbul...enjoyed seeing the sites from the book in your pictures!

When the wall between our family room and kitchen see details here came down we had to deal with two different flooring, old carpet and newish laminate. The plan was to find the same laminate.. we found the box in the basement, how hard could it be? Harder than we thought.. that particular one had been discontinued.. and finding something similar was not an easy task..  Finding a flooring that was kind of close but not close enough would seem like a mistake.. so we decided to go different, this way it would seem like an intentional design choice.. D's Amazing Race Party

Last weekend our eldest turned 9.. and we threw him an amazing race birthday party! As with all the boys other parties.. I bought a plain white cake from Wegmans and let D decorate it himself. We had a total of nine kids.. they picked bandanna's out of a bag to create 3 teams. First Task Not all the kids knew each other.. they were too amped up with the idea of winning that they couldn't manage to calm down and read the clue.. so we had to really guide them through it.. they made mistakes and we let it go.. it seemed a tad chaotic..  Second Task I had 33 little medicine cups filled with M&M's and Goldfish crackers.. 6 of them had stickers on the bottom. The first two teams found the sticker in the first try... what are the odds!? And the third team had to eat a lot of snacks before they finally found their sticker. Third Task I bought 48 piece puzzles from the Dollar Tree. The boys took their time making ...
