I have been in a bit of a book funk.. the last three books I read have been not so great. I am currently reading The Girl in the Mirror by Rose Carlyle .. I am a couple of chapters in but it seems promising.  We have started reading the third Harry Potter book, the Prisoned of Azkaban. The kids are enthralled by the series and try to negotiate extending their bedtime every night just to be able to hear a bit more.  Ever heard of an agamograph? Well the kids were bored over the weekend and I found this little activity for them to do. H made this one. You can find the template here D made the one below. I sat a long while trying to think of what to write about but with nowhere to go and nothing to do there is not much to share.  So while I don't use the blog to do a lot of blatant self promotion except for the occasional  Friday Photography posts, I am doing it now. Ski Break on Plattekill Mountain

Happy New Year to you all!  Back to the grind.. today's our first day back to routine. The kids are still doing virtual school.. M is still working from home..  We had a nice winter break.. we went away for a couple of days.. we rented an Airbnb in Upstate New York. It was a very last minute decision so the pickings were slim but the place was clean and that was the most important part.  We picked Plattekill Mountain, a small mountain.. not too crowded. Drove up Saturday morning and in true 2020 fashion they were closed. They had a storm a day before and were still working on making fresh snow. We got no call or email.. the girl stated they post updates on their social.. oh well. We were in the middle of nowhere.. everything closed due to both Covid and it being Christmas weekend and our Airbnb not available till after 4pm. So we just drove around.. got some lunch at a really sweet little place in Delhi called Blue Bee Cafe. We had mastered the bunny hill last season and were hopin

It's That Time of Year

Image
If it was a normal year we would be on a hot beach somewhere soaking up the sun.. but this has been no normal year.. We are keeping spirits high though.. the snow filled past week really help amp up the joy. We have a slopping backyard which comes in really handy when it snows.. we had some neighborhood kids stop by and sled down as well. Keeping with the holiday spirit we decided to make cookie decorating kits for our friends and neighbors. I baked over sixty sugar cookies, packed little baggies of sprinkles and made colorful icing.. I had a bunch of pastel food coloring so our icing looks less Christmasy and more Easterish.  I'm going to be taking a blogging break for the rest of the year.. I wish you all a very Happy Holiday and New Year.                          Etsy             Instagram             Twitter             Bloglovin

So I am currently reading my 25th book of the year.. that is a record for me, post children. Covid and being stuck at home obviously had a lot to do with it.  The Kitchen God's Wife by Amy Tan Synopsis -  Winnie and Helen have kept each other's worst secrets for more than fifty years. Now, because she believes she is dying, Helen wants to expose everything. And Winnie angrily determines that she must be the one to tell her daughter, Pearl, about the past—including the terrible truth even Helen does not know. And so begins Winnie's story of her life on a small island outside Shanghai in the 1920s, and other places in China during World War II, and traces the happy and desperate events that led to Winnie's coming to America in 1949. Thoughts - This wasn't a really long book.. but sometimes it felt really long. Based in China during and before World War II it was not always fun to read about all the horrors people have to live through during war. But add all the
