Heartbroken

I tried but I just couldn't bring myself to post about anything today.. this country that I call home is breaking my heart. To think we were in the land of the free.. it is not just the orange man and his actions it is the fact that half the country supported this man. We consider ourselves lucky to live in a state that is more diverse and accepting but not all states are such. And I pray for my fellow brown men, women and children whose lives will be so greatly affected by ignorance and fear of an incorrect stereotype.  I am moved to tears by the hope that flickers, when I see people of all colors, race and religion protesting against the injustices against one.. I see all the good in so many of my fellow American's and it reminds me of why I call this great country home. I don't like to get political on this blog but I don't really see this an being political. This is our lives, our future we are talking about and the side you are standing on today will shape

Mirrored  - When touring a museum in Iran I came across a ceiling covered in rectangular mirrors, interwoven to make for a beautiful sight. And it was there that I took his photograph. The slight tilt of my camera creates more interest in the picture. And a sepia tone gives it an aged look. You can buy this print  here . and we are already nearing the end of January.. what did we accomplish this month? so much.. and a whole lotta nothing. D finished reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.. and has moved on to James and the Giant Peach. Over the weekend we binged on the sinfully decedent Godiva Cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory while watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie, the Gene Wilder one of course! We also discovered this month that D got accepted to an advance reading and advanced math class!! This deserves some celebrating and we have the perfect reward in mind.. Did you know there is a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical on Broadway?! Silly hat day in school H has some skills of his own.. he is talking up a storm! He is quick witted and has a clever reply to anything we throw at him. While mostly amusing it get's difficult to keep a straight face when trying to tell him no! Which is a lot.. he is very fiery strong willed child.  With D growing in

The Boys Make Some Art

Since even before we started working on the boys rooms I had wanted to do this with them. I had bought the canvas' at Micheals and waited for the perfect warm sunny summer day because there was no way I was going to set H loose in the house with paint. What's interesting is how their personalities are perfectly depicted in their painting style :)                           Etsy             Instagram             Twitter             Bloglovin

My Year in Books

Image
1. A Constellation of Vital Phenomena - by Anthony Marra - This is a long tale that takes place over the course of only five days and has three major characters. It takes place in a rural town of Chechnya during war time . I am not sure how I felt about this book. It was a very long slow read not something I felt compelled to read. With young kids reading is often a luxury and I want to be reading a book that I really want to be reading. But then again it had some really beautiful moments, some heart wrenching scenes that made me want to finish the book.. eventually. And I did and am glad I did.. though I did skip paragraphs here and there. 2. Triptych - by Karin Slaughter - A crime thriller based in Atlanta.  I read three books in this series this year, particularly the Will Trent series. This is the first in the series and it was a great fast paced read. It's brutal and gory and if you can stomach it then I highly recommend it.  3. The Girl on the Train - by
