Eid Mubarak!
Eid Mubarak! We celebrated Eid on Tuesday.
Traditionally there are two foods that are made in every home during eid, dates and sheerkuma. The dates are not the medjool dates but a dried version which we soak in water to replump and then cook in milk and then stuff with a sweet nut mixture. Sheerkuma is a milk based drink with chopped nuts, chopped dates and vermicelli.. mostly drunk warm but M and I like ours cold.
Tuesday morning we went to the mosque for prayers and then after breakfast and a much craved cup of coffee we went to the movies.
Then we hit the mall and let the kids go on a little shopping spree. Later that evening we got all dressed up and went out with our friends for dinner.
Saturday morning we treated ourselves to breakfast.. gotta make up all that weight we lost right.. we did all lose weight and while I wouldn't mind keeping it off the boys all need to put it back on.
We went to watch the new Ghostbusters movie.. and when you go to the movies in the early afternoon on a weekday the tickets are not only cheaper but you get the whole place to yourself.
We ate at a local Turkish restaurant and I made a reel here if you want to check it out.
On Eid the kids get money from the adults.. the boys decided to decorate the envelopes.
The dinner looks good - thanks for the link. You are all looking ok with your smiling faces..

Belated best wishes for Eid. That second photo is a keeper! As is the third!
ReplyDeleteEid Mubarak, Hena and family! What a lovely photo of the four of you!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading about your traditions.
How wonderful to have that movie theatre almost to yourselves, and I'm sure that breakfast went a long way to put some weight on :-) xxx
Beautiful smiles for the celebrations
ReplyDeleteThe food looks outstanding especially the stuffed dates.
Eid Mubarak!
Thank you for leaving a comment on my blog so that I could find you. What a lovely space you have and a lovely family to share life with. I have Muslim family who celebrate Ramadan and Eid so I am just beginning to learn about it. What a delicious post-fast breakfast you guys enjoyed!! We only attend movies in the afternoons for both reasons you mentioned. And when I take my granddaughters, they dance in front of the screen after each movie. Something we only do when we have the theater to ourselves.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, those desserts look amazing.
ReplyDeleteYou guys all look so fab! And the food pics....aaaaaah.....
ReplyDeleteLovely smiles. A happy celebration like most involving food, family and friends, if we're lucky enough to have them. :)
ReplyDeleteJust dropped by to say and you all look happy, the food is new to me
ReplyDeleteAll that food looks incredible! Yum!! We saw Ghostbusters at the theater recently. Our friends thought that there was a discount (there wasn´t, unfortunately, so we paid a fortune, lol)). Your family pictures are great!

TFS all the wonderful photos of your family and delicious foods as you ended your fasting.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics, especially of the family. The food looks yummy.
ReplyDeleteEid Mubarak to you and your family ! The dates - and all the food - looks yummy! Before I retired as a middle school librarian I would often have students who were fasting during Ramadan come to the library during their lunch period. It was such a learning experience for me and other students as we asked questions, learned about traditions, and shared our own. I miss that....but love being retired! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you and your family had a very blessed and delicious holiday!
ReplyDeleteThose figs look amazing. I wish I could try one. The boys got the movie theatre all to themselves,! That is a funny and wonderful picture. The decorated envelopes are delightful. Kids are so creative when you give them some paper and markers. The Turkish meal looks delicious. The breakfast dishes look really good too. And a lovely photo of all of you.

ReplyDeleteOh my all this food has me hungry :) I love your last family photo :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures! That food looks so yummy! :)
ReplyDeleteIt sure looks like you had a great time. I wonder if that place you went to has Turkish breakfast? My daughter is obsessed after visiting Turkey.
ReplyDeleteYou are entitled to eat up a little bit, and the food looks great.
ReplyDeleteHappy Eid! All those food pics look absolutely delicious :)
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful family. LOL at the photo of your kids having the theater all to themselves!
ReplyDeleteI was hoping you would post about Eid. The food looks fabulous and what a wonderful meal out. That waffle at home? WOW! I love going to early movies -- no one is there (though that surprises me with something like Ghostbusters that might have a bigger crowd.) More than once in the past year, Rick and I have been the ONLY people in the theatre. I love your family photos. You all look lovely dressed up!
ReplyDeleteEid Mubarak! Wonderful, delicious treats you've posted!
ReplyDeleteSo yummy, nice photos :D
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful family you have... glad you enjoyed Eid celebrations. You always have the best food photos. I just want everything!
