lately

What has been going on?

We have been living in chaos. We are getting our kitchen remolded. While this was something we had wanted to do when we first saw the house it was something that we just weren't mentally ready for. We have redone practically every room in the house as you can see here (the link is missing a couple of renovations so I should probably work on that) We have been in this house for over eight years now and have been talking about redoing the kitchen on and off for a couple of years. But it seemed too stressful an endeavor.

Our house was built in the 1970 and this was the original kitchen and it was begging to be torn down. The dishwasher only washed sometimes. The stove only heated up in special sections. The floor was bubbling and I can go on. Work started towards the end of January and we are finally towards the tail end of it now. Finally.

M's office is currently our kitchen/office/mudroom/pantry. This is what is started out looking like.. now it is just pure craziness.

We also spent the last couple of months buying things.. new dishwasher, new stove, new flooring and it is mind boggling. There are too many options, too many reviews and I wanted to be transported to the olden times were you walk into the department store and just buy one. No reviews to mess with your brain.

M and I went to Radio City for the Hasan Minhaj show. It was great. He had a lot of personal elements in it, about infertility and racism and it felt very brave. Afterwards we grabbed some dinner at The Elgin. Everything was extremely salty.

I am also working on a new diamond painting. I finished my first one last year. I don't know if I shared the final product but it is hanging in the guest bedroom. I just couldn't get rid of the glare!

My mom loved it so much she ordered one for herself before she realized that she couldn't see the numbers and the colors were to similar for her to distinguish between. So I am doing it for her.

  5. Your horse painting is stunning. I need to look up diamond painting and learn more. I'm glad the show didn't disappoint (He's great, how could he!). I long for the chaos of a kitchen remodel. It's not going to happen -- but I wish it could! Can't wait to see the end game.

  6. Oh boy - keep us posted on the kitchen remodel. Our kitchen is fine but I have a few improvements that I'd like to do re layout so I'm curious as to how the process goes (and how long it takes)

  8. may your reno go swiftly! we need a new kitchen too, our house was built in 1967 and we painted the cupboards and laid a new floor to take most of the ugly out. I dread when we do that room because that is were the most action is!!

  9. Bless your heart! Renovations can be so stressful, so I hope it all goes smoothly for you. Just stay focused on the end result!

  10. I'm hearing you on the kitchen renovation. We have been postponing ours for even longer, as we are dreading it so. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly! Love the diamond painting, not sure if I'd have the patience! xxx

  13. Those diamond paintings are cool. They look very intricate! I've been doing paint by sticker. That's about my level. lol! I can't wait to see your kitchen when it's done! It is a pain buying all of the things and all of the decisions that need to be made. It's exhausting. That show sounded awesome!

  14. Happy New Kitchen!

You make a good point about reviews messing with your head.
I felt overwhelmed just shopping for a crock pot. Imagining an entire kitchen remodel, y'all deserve a month's vacation.

  17. A kitchen remodel is a lot to work on, but it's a great change and will be nice now that it's finished. Haven't heard of the movie, but so glad you enjoyed it. The diamond painting of the horse is a cool one. It looks good hung up.

I can't wait to see a few pictures of your kitchen. The kitchen is the most used room in a house. I have a small one, but it's functional.

  18. I feel you with the remodel! Especially the kitchen. But, I am sure you know that all this will be a distant memory once it is complete. I could not agree more with the bombardment of options! I can't process things like that. I like two choices, and that is that! I cannot wait to see more! Beautiful photo of you and your husband!

  19. I bet that was a good show; I've seen some of his Youtube ones and I enjoyed them. Yay for remodeling. How exciting. Totally hear you on the pressure of choosing. It's nice to have options but like there are so many to choose from; it's crazy. Your "old" kitchen is still nicer than ours; we have tiled countertops that get all black in the grout areas.

  20. That diamond painting looks so awesome! And OMG! You guys must be so super busy with the remodelling. Our house needed to have a few rooms remodelled too but we're not brave enough to handle all that chaos...LOLZ

  21. Remodeling a kitchen is no joke. And I know what you mean about reviews I get caught up in them and then can not make a decision.

  26. Yay for finally being near the end of your kitchen remodeling. We did our kitchen a few years ago and I remember how crazy it was trying to go about our daily lives with so much chaos in that room. Glad to hear you and your hubby were able to get out for a night on the town. Sounds like a great show.

  27. Whenever we have moved the kitchen is the FIRST room I organize...it is the most needed, and needs to be functional pronto. I feel for you all doing the remodel and it looks good! Glad it will be done soonish. It's so hard living in chaos, I prefer organized spaces!

  28. Am sure your new kitchen will be modern and beautiful after you get through the pains of renovation! Your poor mom, good you can do the craft for her.

  30. We did a total kitchen (and bathrooms) renovation years ago when we lived in Brooklyn, NY. I was very happy with the results but it was a hassle that went on for months. I'm sure you will be happy when it is completed.

How cool to see a show at Radio City! It feels good to be able to go out again without as many covid fears.

It's nice that you are completing the diamond painting for your mother and I imagine it is relaxing to see work on it. Your completed one is beautiful!

  31. We renovated the kitchen in our old place and it took so long. We ended up going away for a couple days and leaving the project manager too it, it was fun to have that time away from the crazy mess for a bit, haha!

Hope that your week is going well! Another stormy day here.
