Sun and Fun in Gran Canaria

Not so far off the Moroccan coast are the Gran Canary Islands.. we were as close to the islands as we were ever going to get. So why not right?

This was our first time staying at an all inclusive resort.. usually we always prefer to venture out and discover.. but this time we were looking to just lay back and relax.

Our hotel perched up on a cliff.

The view from our balcony..

It was nice to not have to think about what to eat of where to go.. the boys loved the pool.. the entertainment was a bit dated.. think AC/DC and Freddy Mercury. There was a shuttle that took us down to the beach.. it was quite a walk otherwise.. we walked the way down and took the shuttle back up. The disappointing part was that it was a public beach meaning we had to rent chairs.. the shocking part it was a clothing optional beach.. thankfully and surprisingly that boys did not seem to notice.. nevertheless we tried to keep our stay at the beach short.

Now a photo dump..

and then it was time to go home.

  1. Wow, the holiday that keeps on giving :-) I am now wondering if there is a further surprise waiting for us readers?

How amazing to visit another destination during your big Mediterranean holiday, good idea to combine two in one. I spent a week in a all inclusive resort as a teenager - it was amazing then. I haven't tried it since but quite like the idea, handy with the little ones and relaxing as no cooking required. Glad you enjoyed your stay, despite the beach surprise. It is not uncommon on European beaches to find topless sunbathers but usually at least the bottoms are covered! x

    1. No no.. no more surprises.. we went straight home after that.
They were wearing bottoms.. or at least I didn't spot any without.. I'm just glad the boys didn't notice.. not sure what kind of conversation that would be.

  6. Whoa! This hotel looks fantastic, Hena! If I stay in a place like that, I would never want to go home!:P And my kids all love to swim so that pool would be like heaven for them:) LOLZ on the "clothing optional" part...I'm such a prude when it comes to those things I would have left. Good for you for staying:)
PS I'm so sorry to hear that you have people you knew that just recently passed away:( This has been one hell of a year when it comes to issue like this:(

    1. it wasn't easy to leave. Tears were shed.
We were concerned.. especially about what the boys would see and how they would react.. we didn't stay for too long and thankfully the boys did not notice. Leaving too soon would have also needed an explanation.

Thank you.. I didn't know most of them personally butt when they leave the world at such a young age it really is heartbreaking.

  7. What a great way to finish up the vacation! I found out when I took my kids to the beach the first time that even clothed, some folks can provide an eyeful. It was our first experience seeing someone in a thong swimsuit and trust me, they shouldn't have been wearing it!

This will be a hard spring break trip to top next year.

  21. We LOVE occasionally staying at all inclusive resorts because it really takes the guess work out of vacationing. Our favorite spot has been the Moon Palace in Cancun. Amazing food and a great resort. That's definitely surprising that it was located on a public beach so you had to pay for chairs. I bet it was even more of a surprise that it was clothing optional!
Either way, it looks like your kiddos had a great time!
