Going Off Strip - Las Vegas

We spent the first two days of our birthday getaway on the Las Vegas Strip but we just couldn't imagine ourselves spending another day walking the same street weaving in and out of the same hotels.

We started with breakfast at Hexx Kitchen + Bar and stopped by the Hexx store to pick up some goodies for the boys. Then grabbed a Lyft to the airport to rent a car.. there is such a sense of freedom with a car. We drove 30 minutes out of the city to the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.. we walked around for a bit then drove around the 40 minute scenic loop. There were several hikes and I wish we had thought to pack better shoes.

We could have spent hours exploring this place.. next we headed to the Hoover Dam and the Mike O’Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. Why the bridge? It gives you a great view of the Hoover Dam below and it's where the borders of  Nevada and Arizona meet..

I have never been in two states at once.. have you? For the movie buff this is where Salma Hayek and Mathew Perry had their baby in Fools Rush In :)

By the time we got there the tours had already ended but we were fine with that.. we were just as happy with quietly taking it all in.

We started to head back to Vegas just before dark but instead of the Strip we drove to Freemont Street in the heart of Downtown Las Vegas

We had dinner at Nacho Daddy and said our goodbyes to the city before heading to the airport.

  7. What a fun bday trip! I enjoy vegas, but I agree, it's fun to get out of the busyness of the city and see some the nearby sights...there are a lot of them. The dam IS pretty interesting.

  10. You two are so good together! Obviously a lot of love there. And what great trips you take. I've never been to Hoover Dam but hear it is quite spectacular to see. I have been to Vegas though, on a ladies' trip, and agree with you ... unless you're there to party or gamble, there's not much to do but look at all the interesting hotels. A couple of things my friend and I did enjoy was the wax museum and the vintage car show - they have Bonnie and Clyde's getaway car, if I recall correctly - (but, of course, it's too late to tell you about those things!) xo

  13. I think venturing out of the commercial hub-bub would be my favorite. I love the scenery in that part of the country and there's something so chilling-y beautiful about dams! I think it's cool that you got to take it all in after hours when no one was there to give tours :)

  28. This is an outstanding venue, with great and thoughtful staff, and a fantastic chef. The location of venues in Los Angeles is well situated. We has been delighted to host our annual event at this location for the past few years, and the space has been perfect for our group of roughly 300.
