lately

Where do I begin?

So the ankle.. remember that? If not click here for a refresher.. well two and a half months later it still hurts. I have done physical therapy, had an MRI and still no solution.. now I am on prescription medicine.. something to fix the nerve damage I have along with the partially torn ligament. Yup.. it just keeps getting better. Boy do I know how to sprain an ankle. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel.. I have been on the pills almost two weeks and I can feel the difference.. thank God!

The contractor finally left.. almost three months later. It started with the master bath and bedroom.. when we started to rip out the old carpet it made the most sense to rip out all the carpet and refinish the floors.. and since we were ripping out carpets why not just repaint too.. and so the job took on a life of it's own.. and we are done! I can not wait to get settled in and share with you the results.. But here are a few BEFORE's

 Teeny Tiny Master Bath

Deep Orangey Red Walls in D's Room

Speaking of D.. his kindergarten teacher assigns a monthly project.. they started out simple enough.. a family tree, a short mystery story; getting the kids used to the idea of projects..and then last month we were to make a diorama for Black History Month. It was fun but in all honesty I did 50% of the work.. he is after all five. This one we are to make yet another diorama.. for Woman's History Month. Help me out.. who is your favorite historic woman?

H on the other hand is so talkative.. he is picking up new words.. mimicking everything we say.. and he has begun the master the pout.. he does it so well paired with the arms folded across his chest and an "I am so angry stare" sometimes he accompanies it with a growl.. lol. I am still waiting for a chance to capture the look on camera.

  1. Hi Hena, it was so nice to see an update on all of you and what's happening lately. I hope your ankle continues to heal quickly and that you're back to normal soon. I'm so glad to hear that the medicine is helping. The bathroom looks really nice! Bathroom renovations are no fun at all, ask me how I know. :) I'm glad you're finished and able to enjoy it now. I know exactly what you mean about these projects for little ones...I do at least 50% of them myself too. My daughter is only in first grade but her teacher seems to think she's in college, or possibly graduate school, based on the work she expects. Yeah...right. We do the best we can. For a female historical figure, maybe Amelia Earhart? She was interesting, but then you'd have to talk about her disappearance, which might be confusing for a kindergartner. :) Hope you guys have a good week!

    1. Thanks.. Had another doctors appointment this morning, I am making progress so that is a good thing.
Lol.. That's a picture of the old bathroom.
We talked about Amelia Earhart.. He thought her disappearing was so cool.. Like magic.. But he is for now decided on Ruth Wakefield the inventor of chocolate chip cookies. I reminded him.. That doesn't mean we will be sitting around eating cookies.

  3. This kinder diorama is terrific! I love how his teacher challenges his class and has them do a monthly project. Can't wait to see the AFTERS! Sorry you're having trouble w/your ankle still. Damn. My husband has been hitting bumps in the road w/his recovery too. One big side suture wasn't healing and the doc found that the dissolvable stitches were rejected by my husband's body so they got taken out. Then one more stitch had to be taken out. After that it still didn't heal and it was tested and a staph infection was found. So the antibiotics my husband were prescribed messed with his stomach so he had to get new ones today.

    1. Thanks.. his KG teacher is one of the reasons we kept D in a private kindergarten instead of public.
Thanks.. hope your husband's recovery is smoother now..

  10. I have such an issue with homework being work that the parent HAS to help complete, as not all families are able or willing to help, plus as I tell my students often, "Your parents already went to school. It's YOUR homework." :) On the other hand, some parents can get up in arms over "not enough" homework - so we can't really win in the homework department. I HATE homework. But I do love his/your diorama. I just saw an article the other day about the chocolate chip lady. That sounds fun, and I say samples are a necessity. :)
I'm impressed with the before, so I can only imagine the afters! Sometimes the sprains are way worse pain wise than a break. At this point a break would be healed. Good luck with it.

    1. I believe in moderation.. the children need homework, they need to be challenged, they need to know life is not all fun and games and learn how to work hard. They do not get graded and in fact all the projects are optional but I still want him to give it his all.
What I found frustrating was another diorama.. I would have preferred another medium was explored..

I remember my mom doing ALL of my science projects, I was never good at science....good job on the diorama! ;) Favorite woman in history...thats a hard one...may have to get back to you on that one. I always thought Rosa Parks was awesome- and I recently read this book called "the power of introverts in a world that cam't stop talking" that talked about how she was actually really quiet and shy, yet she did not let that get to her, she still stood up for herself. I admire that a lot.

    1. lol.. I guide him through all his projects right now.. I set it up for him and then let him do the parts he can himself and assist where needed..
I did not know that about Rosa Parks.. they had Black History Month and a project on Rosa Parks.

  13. I hope you get to catch that too. Hehehe. Must be so cute. I'm also a little taken aback about all the school projects! Aren't teachers aware that it's the parents who'll be doing all the work at that age! Oh boy that sounds annoying to me, then again, I was never one for any sort of home work at school loool

  16. Glad to hear your ankle is feeling better. Mine still isn't quite the same and I hurt it almost two years ago now. Just keep doing your strengthening exercises and remember not to push it.

  17. Wow! That sounds painful. I am so glad you are on the mend. This is a super small bathroom. Well, it is really amazing how much homework teachers give. I think some of my favorite historical women are Harriet Tubman and Princess Diana.
